Utah Valley Roots

The Utah Valley Kennel Club was established in February of 1976 as the “Registered Dog Club of Utah County”. It was conceived as the idea of three families, and after advertising for new members, quickly grew in scope and size.

In May, the members changed the name to the Utah Valley Kennel Club, Inc. By the fall of 1976 the American Kennel Club approved the Club name and constitution. The Club also became incorporated with the State of Utah as a non-profit organization.

1976 was also the year of the Bicentennial Celebration and when the Utah County Commissioners invited all organizations to participate in the newly re-established Utah County Fair, the Club took advantage of the opportunity to foster public education and promote Club activities.

The Club has since continued to maintain its ideas to promote an interest in the breeding of AKC registered dogs, obedience training, and educating the public in all facets of healthcare and the responsibilities of dog ownership.

By 1981, the Club had completed all AKC requirements to become sanctioned. In 1985, after a rigorous trial period, the Club received AKC approval to offer championship points in conformation and obedience.

Today, the Club provides obedience demonstrations and instruction classes, handling classes, all-breed AKC shows, obedience and rally trials, guest speakers on a variety of different topics of interest to dog owners, and a breeders guide to help the public find the breed they are interested in.
